Your Cherished Service Transcends Fear and Chaos
Framing, Adaptive Minds and Bodies and Our Natural Service as Unique Living Beings
I imagine and cherish Naya, an expert in finding essential resources. Born in a village that suffered for lack of water, Naya grew up in the constant search for water. She learned how others found water, how to build relationships and offer services in exchange for water and eventually found new ways to deal with water scarcity. After helping her own village end their struggles to find water, she went to other villages to teach what she knew about finding and managing water and how to solve unique problems of water scarcity. Part of what she learned to master was how to move through the fear and suffering of a lack of water to a place of water abundance. By accepting and then harnessing the complexities of a need for water she came to understand that giving oneself over to fear only prolonged the suffering and delayed the solution. She learned that suffering and scary moments are unique, and while she would never wish them on anyone, she came to understand that our tougher moments can also be pathways to new skills, closer community and new appreciation for life and its potential when a service mindset is embraced. As her region began to thrive having solved for water resource challenges, she was able to turn her water finding skills into foundational knowledge and relationships for solving other resource challenges.
Naya is each and every one of us. Unique individuals, with remarkable minds and bodies that can experience and adapt to our environments in the form of valuable services those environments need. Precious, perfect expressions of life meeting the needs of life. Many of these naturally occurring services come from the love and care of others being their best and most fulfilled selves, and so many more come from how we adapt and find service of value in times of suffering, challenges and chaos. These times call out for new skilled service, and our minds and bodies adapt and reframe ourselves as services to life potential. This is how it has always been, and not just in humans, though we humans have our own special form.
Naya helps me to understand that chaos and fear are often present and that while the suffering they bring can be engaged fully to productive and generative ends, fear and chaos themselves can become traps or pitfalls for our minds and bodies even if we are not directly experiencing suffering. Our imaginations, unfocused are like holes in water vessels draining our time and energy and creativity.
I perceive that every time of great chaos or suffering there is a greater opportunity and need for the life potential of people who imagine that their better natures and best selves are the service that is needed. Sometimes that service emerges as a direct response to the agents and activities of suffering and chaos. Sometimes it arises in the form of creating what may come next - a potential and possibility yet imagined and created. An innovation.
Whether we are going up against the elements of our environment (be they agents of chaos or a lack of water) directly, or striving to shape the environment in ways where these problems may not exist in the future, either path is a journey of skill development and mastery of one’s self. This happens most effectively in a state of wellbeing, awareness and service that is unique and natural to each of us.
Because even those most skillful in their minds and imaginations may lose precious time and energy when experiencing the actions and energies of those who would actively bring about chaos and fear in others, I find it is beneficial to have a framing based on all I know of what is True, Beautiful and Good. To leave nothing out and embrace all within the best frame or story, and test it over and over again. This is why “In Service of Life Potential” holds so much power for me - it is my refinement of a theory of life and mind that helps me explore the untellable special nature in every life in a living system unique to this amazing planet Earth.
You are too precious and powerful for me to simply try and comfort in these times. It would betray the cherishable beings you are. It would betray the power I believe you possess.
Instead, I would say that you are or can become more capable of framing what is going on in an empowering service that inspires you to seek what is next. Inside you, there is a unique and persistent longing, naturally occurring and worth following towards your bliss. Sometimes this will be pure joy and sometimes struggle, but it is the compass you can most rely on. “If the Way that is “Being In Service of Life Potential” helps you better frame this moment, you can count on me to continue to support you in using it. More important is that you have a Way that experiences fear, chaos, suffering as well as stability and joy in a framing that allows you to better live your life.
Reach out to me any time for a team or individual discussion. I believe each of you, fully engaged in your natural and unique life potential are the best answer to this moment. You, me, alive, aware and in service. Life and its potential has been doing this for 3.8 billion years here and each of us may offer up a creative and vital service to add to our epic saga.
In my imagination, I have thought of the part of our human community who are working on our wellbeing, expanding our awareness of life and serving it above all as a dragon as multicolored as our living earth - glimpsed through the mist with a kaleidoscope, rising and spreading its wings. Even though I may never see a human value system worthy of the lives it touches, even glimpsing this dragon assures me of its inevitability and equally inevitable will be our trueing up - one way or the other - to the life centered values beating at the heart of this most ancient dragon.
Imaginative Practice - Create a symbol, or use the dragon as an aid in better framing the powerful unique nature of life. Imagine all the ways that powerful unique nature is expressed through your own longing or sense of bliss, meaning and purpose. Use that symbol as an aid in your decision making, especially when you feel troubled by the events and people who have lost their connection to life. Notice how much more clearly you can make decisions and how prolific your potential becomes.
